Watch: Two Hamas Terrorists Dead as Israel Returns Fire from Gaza

The Israeli military said Tuesday it struck a Hamas military post in the Gaza Strip in response to militant fire at Israeli troops, while Hamas said two of its fighters were killed after taking part in a gunfire parade inside a militant camp.

A statement by the Israeli military said: "A short while ago, terrorists fired shots towards IDF (Israel Defence Forces) soldiers near the northern Gaza Strip from a Hamas post".

The Israeli strike reportedly hit a graduation ceremony of al-Qassam at a Hamas military base with senior Hamas figures in attendance. One of the grainy black and white video clips shows two men in a watchtower, one appears to open fire as puffs of smoke burst in front of him.

The two Palestinians killed were members of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Hamas movement, the Palestinian Maan news agency reported.

"The IDF is prepared to target any aggression against Israel and holds Hamas responsible for everything happening in and from the Gaza Strip", the spokesperson said.

The military released footage that it said was of the incident.

The "Great March of Return" protests sought the right of Palestinian refugees and their descendants, who according to the United Nations make up around two-thirds of Gaza's population, to return to their homeland inside what is now Israel. By the end of July, over 155 Palestinians had died by Israeli fire and thousands were injured, according to the Palestinian health ministry in Gaza.

Al-Aydi was one of four minors who died of gunshot wounds between July 27 and August 5 after Israeli forces shot them during protests on the the Gaza border.
