Vardy pulled a goal back for Leicester in stoppage time to give them some reward for a good performance against last season's runners-up.

'But he's so confident and he started the game brilliantly, Paul Pogba.

"You have to keep it in mind, but you have to keep working to get better and better because I am still quite young". I was thinking, "How do you get the power into it?"

"It's important to win and play well", Mourinho said.

A stuttering run-up ended with the French midfielder guiding the ball into the top corner of the Foxes net and, after the match, Pogba insisted that there was no designated penalty-taker.

"We don't have a penalty-taker, it's how we feel, and I made a decision to take it", Pogba told Sky Sports.

Pogba was surprisingly named as a starter by Jose Mourinho, having only returned to training last week. "Maybe on the next game I leave it to Alexis", said Pogba.

Leicester showed that even without Riyad Mahrez, who has joined Manchester City, it remains a team with plenty of creativity. "We want to go up".

"We should start the Premier League with a win and we did", he said.

Showing few signs of rust despite only returning to training this week, the World Cup victor, wearing the captain's armband, impressed in possession and without it, leading by example and keeping his cool from the spot. I want to play for England and I want to be involved again.

Mourinho's men started their league campaign on a high after overcoming Leicester City on Friday.

"Pogba was a monster. We thought a maximum 60 minutes but he managed 80". Paul [Pogba] was fantastic - his contribution was wonderful, but the fuel was disappearing every minute, so we were in trouble and we needed [Scott] McTominay and [Marouane] Fellaini to give me that balance in midfield. We were in trouble.

"A good match. A match where I needed six changes not three", he told Sky Sports in his post-match interview. Juan Mata was brilliant at picking the right pass and Andreas Pereira was also very steady. Following a strong World Cup, the Red Devils will lean on Paul Pogba to display his incredible talent.

Luke's had a decent pre-season under his belt, looks fit and appears to have finally fixed his attitude "problems"; if this isn't his season then when will it be?
