Unai Emery decides first-choice goalkeeper for new season

With Arsenal to host reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in the season opener on Sunday, Emery could be in for a baptism of fire.

Arsenal has fallen so far behind their top-four rivals that, at present, it is unthinkable Emery could ever match his predecessor's haul of three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups.

Emery said he is working hard toward instilling a new mentality in the team, but that it could take time.

"But the other players are with us and we are going to work at the Emirates the day before the match with all the players", he added. We also need time, but now I am happy because I think the players are improving.

Emery could not have been handed a more hard start to life at Arsenal with a trip to Chelsea following on from the visit of City.

'It is easier to speak here than to do it on the pitch, ' Emery said.

It will be interesting to see who Emery opts for in goal between Leno and Petr Cech but Sokratis is nearly certain to start on Sunday while Torreira will be a starter if he's deemed match fit after arriving back late to pre-season following the World Cup. I like playing him because the preparation is demanding, to try and beat his teams and when we were in Spain, every match against Barcelona for Valencia and Sevilla was very exciting. To continue working I want one thing because it's very important for the players to take confidence in our work, in ourselves.

"In the past, Arsenal have won games on great football, individual brilliance and having great attacking players".

The manager also insisted that Stan Kroenke's full buyout of the club should be deemed a positive thing.

Arsenal appointed Unai Emery as their new manager in May and the manager has already proven that him coming to the Emirates Stadium was a good choice by the North London club because even the fans are behind him.

"This morning, I give them [the squad] the official captain".
