In other words, Apple has made sure that the iOS 12 release isn't marred by the same amount of bugs as iOS 11. Here's how you can sign up right away.

Happy beta day! Apple has finally released iOS 12 to the non-developer masses - assuming you didn't use a crafty trick to get your non-paying-self enrolled in the beta a few weeks ago. And yes, in case you are wondering, unlike the developer betas, the newly released public betas are absolutely free and can be downloaded over the air, meaning that you won't lose your files or settings after you are done with the update process. As Apple promised, the feature is back in the upcoming version. Once you are logged in, open the Enroll My Devices section and follow the instructions there on how to install the newly released public betas.

Just about 48 hours after iOS 12 launched, only about 10 percent of devices have it installed, according to data collected by analytics firm Mixpanel.

The major change in iOS 12.1 is the return of Group FaceTime.

Group FaceTime will enable users to make calls with up to 32 people simultaneously. But this can't be tested on anything but the new iPhone XS models, which aren't available yet.

As for what's coming, nothing's official yet, but there have been plenty of rumors describing a new iPad Pro with Face ID and no home button (check out the renders below). This will allow users to sync their Memoji across devices.

The code in iOS 12.1 beta 1 also confirms that Apple is working on adding landscape support to Face ID. He also pointed out an option for a virtualized 4K external display for the iPad Pro in Apple's iOS simulator.
