Henry Cavill to stop playing Superman, reports suggest

Man of Steel- Superman

Man of Steel- Superman

According to the report from The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has made the decision not to make another Superman movie in the near future.

Anyone hoping to see Henry Cavill don the red cape of Superman again will likely hate this news.

It is thought that Warners are now shifting their strategy and focusing on standalone movies, including an upcoming Supergirl movie, which will be an origin story.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Cavill is out following a failed attempt to get him for a cameo in the upcoming Shazam! starring Zachary Levi. Not only that, it also featured Zack Snyder going full-Zack Snyder, stumbling into self-parody with its over-the-top violence, and convoluted storyline.

It's been reported that British actor Henry Cavill will no longer play Superman as Warners is set to focus on getting Supergirl on the big screen. Following his brilliant turn in Mission: Impossible - Fallout and his appointment as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher show, it looks like the actor's time in the DC Extended Universe is coming to an end. Ben Affleck already left Batman so he's not even the first to abandon ship, but this one stings a bit more for DC. Another source claims that the Netflix role came after the issues with WB, suggesting a change in direction for the studio. He debuted in the role in 2013's Man of Steel. "There is a whole style of Superman's character that I'm very keen to tell and I'm looking forward to the opportunity", the actor said. While Man of Steel was well received, Dawn of Justice and Justice League were... not.
