HENRY CAVILL's Agent, WARNER BROS. Respond to SUPERMAN Rumors

'Man Of Steel' Star Henry Cavill Is Done Playing Superman

Fans will recognize Cavill as the man of steel in the past three films.

The latest news comes from the Hollywood Reporter who states Henry Cavill, the man we have gotten used to being the Man of Steel, is leaving Warner Bros.

Another source says no stand-alone Superman films are planned for the near term.

THR indicates that the separation stemmed from Warner Bros.' attempt to enlist Cavill to star as Superman in "Shazam!", which stars Zachary Levi, saying that contract negotiations "broke down". "This may be a blessing in disguise". Rumors about such a move swirled last week when it was announced that Cavill would be starring in Netflix's video-game adaptation The Witcher, and it does indeed appear that scheduling conflicts may have been the initial root of the problem.

"There's a recognition that some parts of the previous movies didn't work, ' adds the studio insider while a second source suggested the studio is hoping to hit a 'reset" after a string of failures and lack of critical acclaim. At a recent investor conference, new WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey said, "Some of our franchises, in particular at DC, we all think we can do better".

It's worth noting that other DC comics heroes that shared a screen with Cavill in the critically panned "Justice League" will continue with their characters. As the studio attempts to shake up the struggling DC Universe, it is also prioritizing its Harley Quinn "Birds of Prey" spinoff, along with Todd Philip's stand-alone Joker film, and a "Wonder Woman" sequel.

One of the benefits of adapting Val-Zod to film is it opens up an nearly blank slate for Warner Bros.to draw on. He recently starred with Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible - Fallout", which is now the highest grossing installment in the series.
