Android 9.0 Pie-based OxygenOS 9.0 is the best treat for OnePlus 6 users

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has announced rolling out the Android Pie 9.0, the ninth major update and the 16th version of the Android operating system (OS), for its OnePlus 6. It also brings Android Pie based gesture navigation, DND mode with adjustable settings and the new August Security Patch. OnePlus 6 users get a plethora of new features, including revamped UI, tweaked gestures and improved battery - overall translating to an even better experience. As OnePlus creates their own-branded version of Android, OsygenOS 9.0 is what the downloaded update is called, but it includes all the goodies present in Android 9 Pie, where applicable.

As usual, this update will come via OTA: it is therefore a "phased launch", which means that it will initially be implemented for a limited number of users, followed by a wider launch in the following days.

The initial rollout isn't region-based, it's luck of the draw as to whether you get it now or later. For now, the update is limited to OnePlus 6 and there is no word as to when it will arrive on OnePlus 5T or OnePlus 5. The addition of Adaptive Battery support automatically detects the usage patterns of apps. This has called a huge gap also known as OS fragmentation since only a handful of devices have actually received Android Oreo update which is the eighth iteration launched past year.

We haven't seen any confirmations on OnePlus's social media pages, either, so it is safe to assume that this might just be a Germany-only update.

However, there's still no official evidence about anyone actually receiving the update.

Either that or someone jumped the gun on the press release. Going forward, all the upcoming OxygenOS update versions will match the Android update versions. Lacking neither underlying features or surface polish, Android 9 Pie is the most ...
