Canelo v GGG II The big-fight debate

Canelo v GGG II The big-fight debate

Luckily for Alvarez and Golovkin, they'd be able to somewhat settle their differences.

Canelo Alvarez celebrates after defeating Gennady Golovkin in their middleweight world championship boxing match at T-Mobile Arena.

The fight was widely considered to be one of the best and despite the controversial decision, several fans paid respect to both fighters for an incredible spectacle.

The first judge called the fight a draw 114-114, with the other two judges scoring the fight in favor of Canelo Alvarez 115-113.

Two judges favoured Alvarez 115-113, while a third had it 114-114.

The two fighters switched roles from their first fight, with Triple G trying to counter Alvarez and the Mexican fighter coming forward much of the fight.

Criticized for running from Golovkin by GGG's trainer Abel Sanchez in their first meeting last September, Alvarez walked Golovkin down in the early rounds on Saturday and traded evenly at close range late.

"He's a great fighter but I'm a great fighter and I showed it tonight", Alvarez said.

Originally, the pair fought past year in September in Las Vegas.

But Alvarez - who sustained a cut above his left eye which worsened as the bout developed - began to close distance in order to nullify Golovkin's jab. "I thought I fought better than he did". "For now I'm going to enjoy it with my family".

The undefeated WBA, WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight champion has never been knocked down in his 39 fight professional career and, judging by the punishment his chin absorbed last night without even the slightest of flinches, it's safe to say you could drive a cement mixer into the 36-year-old's face and the most he'd get would be a slight headache.

He said: "I want to damage him, for life". The judges are good judges and it was a good fight.

The bad blood between the pair has grown since Alvarez was temporarily suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in April for testing positive for the banned substance clenbuterol, forcing a postponement of their planned May 5 rematch. "I showed my victory with facts".

Golovkin added: "Of course we would like to have a third fight if we can negotiate that". I feel satisfied because I gave a great fight. "It was a clear victory".

Sanchez, meanwhile, brushed off suggestions that Golovkin had once more been on the wrong end of a dubious performance by the three ringside judges. To add to the drama, the two fighters also clashed heads. (When asked about a third fight) Under the right conditions, yes.
