Rain delays BMW Championship and possibly Furyk's last Ryder Cup pick

Rain delays BMW Championship and possibly Furyk's last Ryder Cup pick

Sep 10, 2018; Newtown Square, PA, USA; Keegan Bradley reacts after defeating Justin Rose (not pictured) in a playoff hole in the final round of the BMW Championship golf tournament at Aronimink GC.

Both missed the green right with their approaches, facing similar shots, and though Bradley left himself within tap-in range, Rose watched in despair as his short putt for par slid by, leaving Bradley to finish out for a huge win. "It's tough to go from being on Ryder Cup teams, being on Presidents Cup teams to being outside the top 100 in the world".

"I thought I needed to shoot something around 62 today to have a chance", Woods said. Tiger Woods and Webb Simpson finished tied for sixth at 17-under.

The top five players heading into next week's tournament at East Lake will have the opportunity to win the FedEx Cup outright by winning the Tour Championship. "I'm going to get some rest and do my best in the finale".

By getting into the Tour Championship, Woods also earns a spot in next year's WGC-Mexico Championship. "It was hard to get ready to play because I was like, 'Man, if they call it, I'm good.' But I was only three back".

The first tee time was scheduled for 7:30 a.m. That was about the time he was just starting to cope with back pain. He's in fifth at the moment, and that's a pretty good result.

Jordan Spieth will not be joining him.

Woods was moved up five spots to No. 20 in the FedEx Cup standings with Sunday's results.

The pick was to be announced a short time after the BMW Championship ends, whenever it ends.

As part of a rule put in place last year to help strengthen fields, the tour requires players who are not lifetime members or veterans (think Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh) to play at least one event per year that they have not played in the past four.

Under the new policy, which was approved at the policy board's final meeting on November 22, any player who participated in 25 or more official money events during the current or previous season is exempt from the requirement (of adding a new tournament).

Still to be determined is the penalty. As the leaders played their final few holes Monday at Aronimink, he gave one of his most telling answers yet about his prospects for next season.

"I assume it will either be a fine or I'm adding some [events] in the fall".

Bradley and Xander Schauffele, who finished one shot out of the playoff, moved into the top 30 to qualify for East Lake, and Emiliano Grillo joined Spieth as the two players who fell out.
