First Image of Ruby Rose as Batwoman Reveals a New Caped Crusader

The CW has just debuted the first picture of Ruby Rose in costume as Kate Kane/Batwoman for this year's Arrowverse crossover, and she looks epic.

Designed by Oscar victor Colleen Atwood, the fight-ready Batwoman costume features a winged cape, a red bat symbol across the chest, a utility belt, and, most striking of all, a red wig emerging from the traditional cowl. If everything goes according to plan, Rose will also headline her own Batwoman series as the network is now developing a stand-alone series around the character, too.

Rose was announced as the new Batwoman in August to both celebration and some social media backlash. TV released the first look at the new live-action Batwoman coming to the small screen in December.

The crossover, titled "Elseworlds", is scheduled to begin December 9 with The Flash, followed by Arrow on December 10, then Supergirl on December 11. Should Batwoman be picked up to series, it will join the above-mentioned shows along with Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning in the CW's comic-heavy line-up.

All these Metropolis and Gotham personalities showing up, along with that title "Elseworlds" makes us think that, unlike previous crossover events which took place mainly on "Earth 1" where most of the Arrowverse denizens we know and love reside, this one might take the show, or shows, on the road over to Supergirl's Earth 38.

In the comics, Kate Kane is a brilliant fighter and strategist, inspired by Batman and utilizing her training from the military academy that she attended as a young woman. "Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Berlanti said: "[Ruby] is terrific in the role, and we're excited for people to see the story".
