The Core i5-9600K has six cores, also without Hyper-Threading.

Stepping down the ladder, we find the Core i7-9700K. Intel has the 4-core boost at 4.8GHz while 6/8-core CPU boost reaches 4.7GHz.

Intel has finally officially confirmed the existence of the Core i9-9900K, its first eight-core/16-thread mainstream CPU that will be the flagship part of the new 9th Gen Intel Core mainstream desktop range.

Intel has dropped hyper-threading on its lower-end, budget processor before, but this is a high-end processor meant for gamers and creatives.

Amazon just started listing the 8-core Core i9 9900K. Leading the new group of products is the Intel Core i9-9900K and yes, it will indeed come with that multi-sided translucent packaging.

The supporting act today is the Core i5-9600K, with six cores but no Hyperthreading. The chip's base clock is set at 3.1GHz but features a much faster maximum single-core Turbo frequency of 4.3GHz.

Switching back to solder as the TIM for these CPUs should provide significantly improved thermal conductivity, resulting in additional overclocking headroom as well as cooler and quieter operation at stock frequencies without the need of delidding. All of the 9th gen CPUs will work on current 300-series motherboards, as well as the new Z390 motherboards coming soon. They are however still on the 14nm architecture, so there is a real sense that the industry is holding its breath in anticipation of Intel launching their 10nm Cannon lake series at some point next year.

While the nearly $500 price tag is substantially higher than AMD's $330 8-core Ryzen 7 2700X, Intel's advantage in single-threaded performance combined with matched core counts should provide for quite the interesting comparison. The Core i5-9600K will cost $262, the Core i7-9700K is $373, and the Core i9-9900K is $488.

We are now at a launch event for this processor, and will share further details if and when we can.
