Jimmy Butler verbally challenged team at practice

Report: Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor rejected Heat’s Jimmy Butler trade offer that included Josh Richardson, protected 1st-round pick

Minnesota's star swingman, who has been at odds with the organization for almost a month, requested a trade from the Timberwolves on September 19. Here's a comprehensive timeline of the Butler trade rumors since his initial request. Since then, he hadn't reported to Wolves practice or participated in preseason games until Wednesday. Butler verbally attacked Thibodeau and generally manager Scott Layden per Wojnarowski, reportedly telling Layden during a scrimmage, "You f--ing need me". Coaches and players were largely speechless at Butler's tour de force throughout the workout, league sources said. "He dominated the gym in every way".

Butler is believed to have experienced some issues with Wiggins and especially Towns last season.

The issue is Butler isn't the kind of guy who wants to sit out when he could play, so despite the weirdness surrounding his current situation, reports indicate he's going to take the floor once he's fully ready to return following offseason wrist surgery.

Either way, Butler had previously refused Thibodeau's request to re-join the team, according to multiple reports from The Athletic.

According to ESPN, the Wolves were close to a Butler trade with the Heat this weekend, but it fell apart.

With that in mind, the Heat appear to still be in pursuit.

It's not clear what Butler's outburst means for Minnesota. The Heat remain the lone legitimate suitor for Butler as of Wednesday afternoon as the Timberwolves have reportedly "had no serious, active talks with any other team". He can become a free agent at season's end. The Rockets also engaged in Butler trade talks, but have thus far been unwilling to trade forward P.J. Tucker.

The good news for Minnesota is that Jimmy Butler attended a team practice on Wednesday.

While the Butler saga seems to be dragging on, it's only been three weeks, as one GM pointed out to AmicoHoops.

Apparently, a deal can't come soon enough for Butler.
