National Football League trade rumors: Eagles interested in Bills RB McCoy

Eagles’ Jay Ajayi out for season with torn left ACL

The Eagles lost RB Jay Ajayi for the season with a torn ACL, and McCoy, who is the Eagles' all-time leading rusher, spent the first six seasons of his career with the Eagles. Jason La Canfora had previously reported that the team was mulling over a trade for Bell.

Thirty-five year old Darren Sproles figured prominently in the opener, but hasn't played since due to a hamstring injury.

Ajayi, in his team's loss to Minnesota on Sunday, carried the ball just eight times for 29 yards.

Adding either Johnson or Bell would take a serious hit to the Eagles payroll this year and beyond.

Jay Ajayi #26 of the Philadelphia Eagles runs with the ball while defended by Kendrick Lewis #28 of the Tennessee Titans in the third quarter at Nissan Stadium on September 30, 2018 in Nashville, Tennessee. Or, of course, they could try to pursue trades for other, cheaper running backs or simply sign an existing free agent.

However, for a team off to a 2-3 start while attempting to defend its Super Bowl title, Bell could be seen as the kind of elite talent who could realistically put Philadelphia back over the top. Of the 11 running backs with over 500 carries during that time, only Ezekiel Elliott and LeSean McCoy have run for a higher average.
