Ruben Loftus-Cheek proves point to Maurizio Sarri with stunning hat-trick

Marcos Alonso has signed a new contract with Chelsea that will run until 2023.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is similarly struggling to make an impact under Sarri and he had several meetings with his manager before deciding to stay over the summer.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek produced a mesmerising performance on his return to the Chelsea starting line-up, as the England global scored a delightful hat-trick in a 3-1 win for the Blues against BATE Borisov in the Europa League.

Sarri said: "I am very happy with him and for him".

"In the past two seasons he has developed into an important player for the club, demonstrating his outstanding ability and a fantastic attitude that has helped him become a Premier League champion and Spain worldwide". We have to change something. It's very hard to solve the tactical problem without an improvement in the defensive phase of these three midfielders. It is very hard to put two midfielders with the same characteristics in the starting 11.

BATE got a consolation goal ten minutes from the end when Alexei Rios converted from a free-kick but Chelsea held on to secure the 3-1 win.

A move that started with Loftus-Cheek in his own half saw Pedro burst down the left flank and, when he was dispossessed, Chelsea's home-grown talent was on hand to guide home his hat-trick goal.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup may seem a long time ago as the United Kingdom winter draws closer but Loftus-Cheek's confident display of attacking link play and near-constant endeavour brought back memories of his best moments for England in Russian Federation.

"First of all, as I said after the match, we were wrong", Sarri said.

"We played very well for 65 minutes, and not very well in the last 25 minutes. It's a little problem and I don't know how to solve it", he added. "I preferred the clean sheet".
