FBI Taking Over Search for Missing 13-Year-Old Jayme Closs

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said at a news conference Wednesday that autopsies parents confirmed the couple was shot. The Barron County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from inside the home shortly before 1 a.m., but no one spoke directly to dispatchers, there was only some background noise.

Barron County cops have received over 400 tips about the case but nothing to make them think that Jayme could be a suspect, according to Fitzgerald.

More than 100 local and state Federal Bureau of Investigation agents are working on the case, and officials say more than 400 tips have come in from the community and people around the country.

Barron Area School District administrator Diane Tremblay said Jayme, a member of her school's cross-country team, is a "sweet girl who is a loyal friend and loves to dance".

Authorities believe Jayme was inside the home when her parents were killed, but she was gone by the time deputies got there.

"Our thoughts are with the Closs family and the entire Barron community".

"We want to bring Jayme home".

Jayme Closs, 13, has been missing since Monday, when her parents were found dead inside their Wisconsin home.

Her grandfather, Robert Naiberg, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that nothing seemed amiss at the gathering, which was to celebrate the birthday of a grandson who is cousins with Jayme.

Authorities on Wednesday (Oct. 17) ruled the deaths of the parents of a missing 13-year-old Wisconsin girl as homicide, as the search for Jayme Closs, the missing girl, entered its third day.

But when police arrived four minutes later, no gun or suspects were found at the scene and there was no sign of Jayme.

"I'll be honest. I'm struggling with this because I don't have some of those answers that I want to give you", Fitzgerald told reporters.

"Is it a random attack or a target attack? She was a quiet girl".

Many hours later, the Wisconsin sheriff said that while "I can't say that it was not her. we have no credible information about the Miami incident".

Jayme is described as 5-feet (1.5 meters) tall and 100 pounds (45 kilograms), with strawberry-blond hair and green eyes.

Investigators don't have any leads or suspects, but they have enlisted the help of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which has agents who specialize in missing children cases, the sheriff said.

"The media are uniquely able to help, in terms of getting out information and encouraging people to share tips", Lueders said.

While 82 percent of the Amber Alerts issued previous year identified a vehicle and 50 percent had specific license plate numbers, according to U.S. Department of Justice statistics, Closs' case offers neither of those clues. Sheriff Fitzgerald urged the public to continue calling the hotline with tips: 855-744-3879.
