The permanent credential allows a select group of journalists to freely enter and leave the White House and cover the president's day-to-day life.

President Donald Trump paused his post-midterms press briefing Wednesday to yell at CNN's Jim Acosta, wagging his finger and calling him a "rude, awful person" and adding that CNN should be "ashamed" to have him in their employ.

When the president tried to go to another journalist, Acosta declined to give up the microphone and asked about possible indictments by special counsel Robert Mueller based on the ongoing investigation into Trump's presidential campaign.

The White House announced late Wednesday that it is temporarily suspending press credentials from CNN's Jim Acosta.

Their arms momentarily come together as the woman tries to take the microphone off him. In August 2018, Acosta asked Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, if she agreed with Trump's assertion that journalists were the "enemy of the people".

At that point, a White House intern tried to physically take the microphone from Acosta, who wrestled them for it. 'Excuse me ma'am, ' he said to her.

The artist's scathing tweet came as Trump clashed with the CNN White House reporter during a news conference following the midterm elections.

"You are a rude, awful person - and you shouldn't be working for CNN". In between the two questions, Trump attempted to move on, but Acosta refused.

"As you know Mr. President, it was not an invasion", Acosta said, citing no evidence for his claim.

"CNN should be ashamed of itself, having you working for them", he said.

"I do think, Anderson, that this is a test for all of us", Acosta said.

President Trump faced a very antagonistic media on the day after the midterm elections, offering a soft tone about his desire to work across the aisle with Nancy Pelosi and Democrats in the House.

An association representing the Washington press corps urged the White House to immediately reverse "this weak and misguided action". "Put down the mic".

"Well, I'm not a big fan of yours, either, to be honest. Secret Service just informed me I can not enter the grounds for my 8 pm hit", Acosta tweeted Wednesday evening. The White House Correspondents' Association said it objected to security credentials being used "as a tool to punish a reporter with whom it has a hard relationship" and "we urge the White House to immediately reverse this weak and misguided action", NBC News reported. CNN's Ali Velshi tweeted his support, writing, "I worked with Jim @Acosta during my years @CNN".

CNN have since defended the reporter and praised others for standing up for themselves during the tense exchange.

"To say that, what you said, is so insulting to me", he said.
