Blizzard's previous promises of "multiple Diablo projects" bore fruit during the keynote with the announcement of Diablo Immortal, a "full-fledged action-RPG you can play everywhere with everyone".

The massively multiplayer spin-off will allow over a dozen players to fight together with 6 familiar classes.

Specifically, Blizzard said Diablo Immortal would feature large, "shared outdoor zones" where players could explore the overworld and encounter other players online.

Diablo: Immortal tells the story between Diablo II and Diablo III, filling in details on what unfolded with Tyrael, Malthael, and others.

The transition from mouse-and-keyboard or controller to mobile touchscreen device was created to feel completely natural, intuitive, and fun in Diablo Immortal. Many Blizzard fans have pointed out the figurine is a recoloured version of an existing Treasure Goblin toy from the Cute But Deadly series. Diablo: Immortal was developed from the ground up as a stand-alone mobile experience. Visit vast social hubs like Westmarch and conduct business with local merchants before setting off on your next adventure.

So Blizzcon 2018 is underway, and during the event's opening ceremony, Blizzard revealed what's next for the Diablo franchise. "We want to do it in a way that's true to Blizzard, putting gameplay first". There was no announcement of a Diablo 2 or Diablo remaster. "With their incredible passion for Diablo and proven mobile expertise, the development team has spawned an ultra-responsive and breathtakingly attractive mobile game, and we can't wait for players to get their hands on it".

Diablo Immortal is planned to release "when it's done" exclusively on iOS and Android devices.
