"She loved people. And was going to do something wonderful someday", Robin said.

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office said he is being held on four counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, four counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, four counts of hit-and-run involving death and one count of hit-and-run involving great bodily harm.

Deputies say the 10-year-old confessed to her involvement in a November 2 interview.

The incident happened in the same county where three Girl Scouts were killed by a truck driver over the weekend.

From left, Sara Jo Schneider and her daughter Haylee Hickle, along with fellow Girl Scouts Jayna Kelley and Autumn Helgeson were killed in a hit-and-run in Wisconsin, Nov. 3, 2018, while picking up trash along a highway.

The fatal incident was similar to one in September, when Treu crashed his vehicle and police found methamphetamine and THC in it, Newell said in court.

The accused was accompanied by her biological parents in court, where Judge James Isaacson ordered her to be detained on a $50,000 (£38,280) cash bond.

"We partner with Real Living, so any student in our district, no matter what the circumstance gets 4 free counseling sessions for themselves, as well as every single member of their family", said Eliopoulos. The girl then said the baby hit his head on a footstool, Kowalczyk said in court. The children and their adult chaperones wore bright green safety vests as they walked along both sides of County Highway P, which they had adopted as a community service project.

Lake Hallie Police said Mr Treu and a passenger in the pickup truck both told investigators they had intentionally been inhaling chemical vapours just prior to the crash.

Haylee also enjoyed painting and working on clay pottery with her mother.

Police say the fourth-graders and a mother were collecting trash in Lake Hallie Saturday morning when they were struck by the truck. The 21-year-old driver, Colten Treu of Chippewa Falls, sped off but later surrendered. Temporary representation was with him for his court appearance again Tuesday, and CNN has reached out to the attorney for comment.

The surviving girl was hospitalized in Rochester in critical condition. Sokup says he will be charged with four homicide counts.
