Final Fantasy XV has been a monster hit for Square Enix, selling more than eight million copies worldwide since it was released in 2016 and it's seen a number of popular DLC releases since then.

Earlier this year, Square Enix revealed that Final Fantasy XV would receive at least four story DLC in 2019.

The Final Fantasy XV stream continued with additional announcements to celebrate the two-year anniversary of the game, including Final Fantasy XV: Comrades being released as a standalone game that does not require the main game to play, coming December 12, 2018.

Akio Ofuji, the global brand director for Square Enix's Final Fantasy XV game, also announced in the same video that Square Enix has cancelled the development on the planned "Episode Aranea", "Episode Lunafreya", and "Episode Noctis" DLC.

Luminous was established back in March with the aim of developing blockbuster titles alongside "innovative games and entertainment", but has since refocused its efforts exclusively on triple-A development.

The departure of Tabata is a huge sting for fans. Tabata was the director of Luminous.

Polygon said Tabata had "a project that I truly wish to solidify as my next challenge after FFXV". What's next in store for Final Fantasy XV, we'll have to wait and see. "For that reason, I have made a decision to leave my current position and start my own business in order to achieve my goal". All except Episode Ardyn have been cancelled, with Ardyn still planned for its March 2019 release. Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer Comrades releases the same day, with new bosses, weapons, and costumes available. Later, it was announced that Final Fantasy XIV will get a special event designed for XV owners, which features Noctis in a quest titled "Adventurer From Another World".

"Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer: Comrades" will release on December 12 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
