This year's big release for India's Diwali festival, the seafaring song-and-dance fest with superstars Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan cost US$42 million (RM175 million), making it the most expensive movie to date in the Hindi-language industry.

The promotions were made unique by perfectionist Aamir Khan.

Big, bloated, bombastic, Thugs of Hindostan is a period saga that banks exclusively upon action and spectacle for impact. The film is set in the backdrop of British India when few revolutionaries were fighting against the British government for the freedom. It revolves around the life of a thug and his gang who challenge the British Empire in the country.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh has however given it just two stars, saying the movie was disappointing and all that glitters is gold.

He also tweeted, #ThugsOfHindostan may reap the benefit of the holiday period + tremendous hype + impressive names in its cast. Holds true for #TOH.

Well, this is really shocking as expecting big from Aamir Khan this film is not what the audience actually expecting from him. Formula-ridden plot, screenplay of convenience, shoddy direction are the main culprits...' The film critic rated Thugs of Hindostan with 2 stars.

However, reportedly Aamir isn't confident about this film like his previous flicks and with the trailer getting a divide talk, the suspense continues.

The initial reactions to the film are pouring in on social media. The never-before-seen combo of Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, with the support of Yash Raj Films, is expected to help the film do well on the box office.
