U.S. election: Dead brothel owner wins landslide in Nevada

Dennis Hof, owner of the Nevada Love Ranch brothel, won the race for Nevada's 36th Assembly District, despite dying a month ago while celebrating his 72nd birthday.

However, his name remained on the ballot in accordance with Nevada's legislation, as the deadline for changing the roster had passed.

According to the Associated Press, Hoff then beat Democratic educator Lesia Romanov on November 6 in the race for Nevada's 36th Assembly District.

Although polling sites were plastered with signs declaring him dead, results showed that Hof had 68.3 percent of the vote versus Romanov's 32 percent.

During his campaign, he dubbed himself the "Trump from Pahrump" in reference to the town where he lived in Nevada.

Hof had celebrated his birthday the day before with a party attended by porn star Ron Jeremy and other guests.

"There are a lot of Republicans who were uncomfortable voting for Dennis because of the nature of his business, and they now know that he is not the one who will be serving", the campaign manager, Chuck Muth, told Reuters.

72 year old Hof died unexpectedly at his brothel - called "The Love Ranch" - last month, according to the Nye County Sheriff's Office.

Officials are still waiting to determine Hof's cause of death.

Hof ran on a platform based on deeply conservative ideals, including expansion of gun rights and a hard-line policy on immigration.

The pro-Trump candidate still found favour with the voters and patrons of Hof's Nevada brothel, even from the great beyond just to keep his memory alive. But he also stumped for non-traditional issues, including an effort to make the brothel industry more mainstream.

In a previous interview, Mr Hof said: "This really is the Trump movement". According to reports, county officials will appoint a Republican to take his place in the seat. "People will set aside for a moment their moral beliefs, their religious beliefs, to get somebody that is honest in office".

"This is the new breed of politicians because of what Donald Trump has done".
