The Australian actress told chat show host Ellen Degeneres: "I'm proud to be the first ever plus-sized girl to be the star of a romantic comedy".

By Saturday, Mo'Nique herself chimed in on Twitter, suggesting Wilson "take a moment and know the history" of romantic comedies before making such bold claims about her casting. Twitter users swiftly pointed out that plus-sized stars such as Queen Latifah and Mo'Nique had starred in the respective 2006 rom-coms Last Holiday and Phat Girlz.

I love @RebelWilson as much as the next girl, but she isn't the first plus sized woman to play the lead in a romantic comedy.

Wilson responded with a lawsuit which she won but was later forced to pay back a substantial sum. Yeah I of course know of these movies but it was questionable as to whether: 1.

Wilson tweeted that she believes there is a "grey area" about whether Queen Latifah and Mo'Nique could be considered plus-size, and whether their films were categorized as single-lead romantic comedies. Technically those films are catorgorized/billed as a studio rom-com with a sole lead.

- Mo'Nique Worldwide (@moworldwide) November 3, 2018Rather than acknowledging that she was wrong, Wilson responded to Mo, saying she wasn't trying to "erase anyone's achievements". "So there's a slight grey area".

Mashable also reported that Wilson began blocking critics on Twitter, specifically critics of color. She's blocked so many people that they're now using a hashtag: #RebelWilsonBlockedMe.

Wilson did tweet in a reply to playwright Claire Willett Saturday that she will address what happened "while promoting [Isn't it Romantic] in the proper forums".

"I'm all about supporting plus-size women and I work so hard to do so". Wilson has since been blocking #BlackTwitter after being called out.

Liam Hemsworth, Adam DeVine and Priyanka Chopra will also appear in the film that is due for release early next year.
