Clemson enters Saturday's Cotton Bowl as double-digit favorites over Notre Dame as all signs point to yet another collision course with Alabama in the national title game.

Yahoo's Pat Forde spoke with some close to the program in Clemson and learned that was not likely and there's a "slim to none" chance the three players will be eligible to play, even though there were only trace amounts found in each. Clemson is awaiting results of a second sample from each player.

"This evening, Clemson Athletics received confirmation from the NCAA of suspensions for tight end Braden Galloway, offensive lineman Zach Giella and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, all three of whom will be unavailable for Saturday's game against Notre Dame". "The athletic department will have no further comments on this matter this evening as it considers all of our options, including appeals".

Tigers defensive coordinator Brent Venables said that as of Wednesday, there had been no change in Lawrence's status.

Offer: 50% off FIRST YEAR of annual subscription! Not having Lawrence won't cripple Clemson, but it will weaken the best defensive line in the country, a unit that also features fellow All-ACC first-team selections Clelin Ferrell and Christian Wilkins.

If this is the end of Lawrence's career at Clemson, he'll finish with 133 tackles, including 19.5 for a loss, and 10.5 sacks.

Swinney said the players had told him they had not intentionally taken any banned substances. "And I don't have any doubt that he'll step in and do a great job for us, as will Nyles and Jordan", Swinney said.

Clemson already had been preparing as if it wouldn't have Lawrence, treating the 6-foot-4, 350-pound stalwart's absence like an injury. "They've played a lot of winning football". What he's done for us, his play as one of the 11 on defense. Each has played in every game this season.

Lawrence is expected to turn pro, but Galloway and Giella are now facing a year-long suspension.
