'Crazy' crown prince is 'complicit' in Jamal Khashoggi killing, USA senator says

UN urges international inquiry on Khashoggi killing

"There's not a smoking gun, there's a smoking saw", Graham told reporters, apparently referring to the bone saw that the Khashoggi assassins brought along when they entrapped, killed, and dismembered him in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

"I have zero question in my mind that the crown prince ordered the killing, monitored the killing, knew exactly what was happening", said Bob Corker, a Tennessee Republican.

The Virginia resident disappeared after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2. On 20 November he said: "It could very well be that the crown prince had knowledge of this tragic event - maybe he did and maybe he didn't". "I left the briefing with high confidence that my initial assessment of the situation is correct". "Saudi Arabia makes billions and billions of dollars off of oil".

"It would be much better if the Commander in Chief would stand up to the free world and say we don't the condone killing of journalists", Corker said. MBS, the crown prince, is a wrecking ball.

"I think the behaviour before the Khashoggi murder was beyond disturbing and I can not see him being a reliable partner to the United States".

"If the Saudi government is going to be in the hands of this man for a long time to come, I find it very hard to be able to do business, because I think he's insane, I think he is unsafe", he said.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said he believes if the crown prince were put on trial, a jury would find him guilty in "about 30 minutes".

Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton, however, have all asserted that there is no real proof that Khashoggi's killing was ordered by MBS.

"It is zero chance, zero, that this happened in such an organized fashion without the [Saudi] crown prince", Graham added. And today's briefing with Haspel seemed to reaffirm Graham's belief that MBS was behind Khashoggi's murder.

Top Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Armed Services, Foreign Relations and intelligence panels and a few others were among those who attended Haspel's briefing on Tuesday. President Donald Trump has defied calls to severe ties with Saudi Arabia warning it would hurt U.S. interests, TRT World's Sally Ayhan reports.

Trump has said it may never be known who was responsible for the killing, and in public comments - and a long and unusual statement last week - he reinforced the United States' long alliance with the Saudis. "Because then you're going to have open season on Americans everywhere". Bolton argued. MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell, in response, described Bolton's assertion as "imbecilic".

Mr Menendez has previously called for a strong U.S. reaction to Mr Khashoggi's death and supports legislation to end all USA support for the Saudi coalition embroiled in the Yemen war. Graham and Paul have also said they think Congress should block a pending arms deal with the kingdom.
