Kevin Hart has recently come under fire after his now-tenuous position as 2019 Oscars host resulted in the resurfacing of anti-gay tweets he made in the early 2000s, but "Pose" star MJ Rodriguez doesn't think he should lose his hosting duties over the tweets.

"I just got a call from the Academy and that call basically said, 'Kevin, apologize for your tweets of old or we're going to have to move on and find another host, '" Hart said in an Instagram video posted last Thursday night.

Hart said today on Twitter, "I was asked the most incredible question from my kids today on the phone ... they said "Dad why don't you get mad when people talk about you on the internet" ... my answer was 'I never see that stuff because I'm too busy being happy & loving you 2'". "I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past", wrote Hart.

The confirmation of his departure from the show comes after he posted a video on Instagram earlier today in which he said he says the Academy gave him an ultimatum: apologize for the tweets or step down. "I've done it. I'm not going to continue to go back and tap into the days of old when I've moved on and I'm in a completely different place in my life". If you don't believe that people change, grow, evolve? Now with that being said, I don't know if I handled my son's first gay moment correctly.

This is a breaking story and will be updated. Much love and appreciation to the Academy.

On the 4th of December, Tuesday, the 39-year-old comedian said he would be at the helm of the Oscars next year. "I hope we can meet again". I swear I wish you guys could see/feel/understand the mental place that I am in.

Old, homophobic tweets by Kevin Hart (above) have drawn scrutiny. I'm in a great place, a great mature place where all I do is spread positivity. In an interview a year ago, he told Parade, "I had one gay joke in my career and it was about my son at a birthday party, and it was before things got as P.C.as they are now".

In his later Instagram message, he complained that he had already addressed the tweets in the past and that "we feed into internet trolls and we reward them".

With the entertainment industry at the fore of societal change amongst the #MeToo era, having an Academy Awards host who not only has a past riddled with latent homophobia, but refuses to acknowledge or apologise for it, is a backwards step.
