OAKLAND, Calif. - LeBron James remains day-to-day after an MRI on his injured left groin came back clean, the Los Angeles Lakers announced Wednesday.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) dribbles the basketball against Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23) during the third quarter at Oracle Arena.

"It's one of those things we want to make sure he's healthy before we get him back out there", coach Luke Walton said Thursday. "We're going to see what the MRI says, see how I feel the rest of the day today. James has displayed a tremendous capacity throughout his career to avoid extended absences with injury, but sources expected the Lakers and James will be careful not to risk further aggravation of the groin by returning too quickly". "I was able to walk off on my own power".

Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram will have to pick up the scoring load and the Lakers will look more toward the veteran leadership of Rajon Rondo if James misses much time.

The Lakers will have to toe the line carefully here, as they can't drop many games, separated with the eighth-place Kings by only 1.5 games in a tightly-contested Western Conference.

James, who turns 34 on Sunday, is averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.1 assists this season, his 16th in the National Basketball Association and first with the Lakers.
