Carla Stefaniak: Body Found in Search for Missing Woman Who Disappeared During Costa Rica Birthday Trip

According to relatives, Stefaniak was celebrating her birthday in Costa Rica with her sister-in-law, April Burton.

On Tuesday, a family friend said they had waited all day outside the morgue to identify the body, only to be turned away by officials who maintained investigators needed more time.

Now that Stefaniak has been identified by her family, they say they will continue to press Costa Rican officials for more information on who killed her.

A body has been found in the search for a missing Florida woman who disappeared during her birthday trip in Costa Rica.

Martinez was staying in Apartment 7 and Stefaniak was in Apartment 8, where blood was found, Espinoza said.

Caicedo, Stefaniak's father, arrived in Costa Rica and was working with officials in the search. It was discovered partially buried in plastic bags in a mountainous area.

"Words can not express the devastation within her family and friends". In what is believed to be the last conversation she had, she told a friend the property was too secluded to leave in the dark, but she was thirsty and was going to the guard shack to ask for water.

Friends and family grew anxious when Stefaniak didn't answer messages wishing her a happy birthday on Wednesday, CBS News reported. There, she Facetimed a friend from NY, telling him she was thirsty and was going to find a drink.

Burton left the country on November 28, and Stefaniak's flight back to Florida was scheduled for the next day.

Bismarck Espinoza Martinez, 32, the prime suspect, was arrested Tuesday in relation to her murder, after investigators swept the property and found blood stains in her and Martinez's rooms.

"That's when we knew that something's not right", Burton said.

But on Monday, a body was found in a wooded area near the Airbnb property where Stefaniak was staying in Escazu, San Jose.

Stefaniak's co-workers said she was an excellent employee who could get along with anyone.

"Solving this case is very important for the country, very important for the family of the victim", explained Walter Espinoza, spokesperson for Costa Rica's judicial investigation department, "and it is very important for this society in general". We will always be with her and we know she will always be with us.

Authorities said Espinosa Martinez was also a security guard at the building.

The Miami Herald reported that Stefaniak immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 2000 and works for a Miami insurance agency. "She is very active on social media, and for her, on the day of her birthday, to never log in to any of those accounts is just insane". Caicedo said something didn't add up because his sister's flight was scheduled for 1:30 later that day and she was "never early for anything".

The night before her flight, Stefaniak took an Uber ride around the town and then was dropped off at an Airbnb.
