Although the title and cover art was leaked prior to the event, Ubisoft formally announced the next entry in the Far Cry series last night at the Game Awards.

It's rumored that the new Far Cry Apocalypse game, likely now called Far Cry New Dawn, starts where things left off in one of the endings in Far Cry 5, where Montana got struck by a nuclear bomb.

New Dawn will pick up 17 years after this nuclear catastrophe when life is finally returning to Hope County, but with life comes new threats - like mutated boar, moss-covered bison, and white deer with pink-splattered antlers.

So while there are some similarities with the Fallout games New Dawn actually looks closers to Rage 2, which also had a cool-looking new trailer at The Game Awards.

If that wasn't enough animal action for you, this time around your pet will no longer be abandoned by the roadside, with your new critter companion now able to ride alongside you in vehicles, too. Here, players can craft makeshift weapons and vehicles and train their Guns for Hire - including new and familiar faces. But the game will also enable players to roam beyond Hope County in "expeditions" to other unique locations that aren't part of the open-world map. Based on the teaser released on Wednesday and this unconfirmed cover art, it's all but confirmed that New Dawn will continue the story laid out by Far Cry 5. It'll cost $40 in the U.S.; worldwide pricing has not yet been announced. Raised in a lawless frontier, the twin sisters and their band of scavengers live only for today and have descended upon Hope County to take all available resources.

And here's a look a New Dawn's box art. Opposing your efforts are the Highwaymen, a gang of roving bandits led by "the twins", Micki and Lou. Veterans of Far Cry 5 will recognise this repurposed settlement as the ruins of John Seed's ranch. They have their own world and you get into that world. Expect to see some, but not all, of the characters you met in Far Cry 5.
