Sully The Service Dog Arrives To View Owner George H.W. Bush's Casket

An invitation-only funeral service is set for Wednesday at Washington National Cathedral. "He had an enormous capacity to give of himself".

Along with Donald Trump and Melania Trump, former United States presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were seated in the first row of the Washington National Cathedral along with their spouses when Bush, the 43rd president took a moment to shake each of their hands. Among them was the former US President's prominent friend - Sully, his service dog. There will be limited package deliver to avoid backlogs during the holiday gifting season.

President Donald Trump did not attend, but he and first lady Melania Trump came to the Capitol later on Monday to pay tribute. The elder Bush never warmed to Trump and voted for Trump's 2016 challenger, Democrat Hillary Clinton. Sitting next to the Clintons was fellow Democrat Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn.

But Trump wrote members of Congress to hail Bush as a man who "led a life that exemplified what is truly great about America".

George W. and Laura Bush entered first, and the former president put his hand on the flag-draped casket holding the remains of his father.

Jenna Bush Hager, center, and her husband, Henry Hager, left, and her twin sister, Barbara Bush, right, pay their respects to their grandfather, former President George H.W. Bush as he lies in state at the U.S. Capitol in Washington on Tuesday.

Inside the Capitol, people in wheelchairs visited the coffin alongside Sully, the two-year-old Labrador retriever assigned to Mr Bush after his wife, Barbara, died in April. John McCain was the last person to lie in state at the Capitol after his death in August.

Kansas native and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole has saluted President George H.W. Bush at the casket of the late president.

President Bush tweeted then that it was, "A great joy to welcome home the newest member of our family, 'Sully, ' a handsome - and beautifully trained - lab from @AmericasVetDogs".
