Acer's Predator Triton gaming laptops step up a level

Acer's Predator Triton 900 is a $4,000 gaming laptop with a crazy hinge

After Samsung and Asus' announcements, Acer has unveiled a curious $4,000 convertible laptop named the Predator Triton 900. Models of the Triton 500 that come equipped with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU will also support G-Sync. It comes with up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM and NVMe PCIe RAID 0 SSD storage and runs Windows 10. I'm not sure ergonomics is top of mind for most gamers who are willing to shell out $4,000 for a laptop, but it can't hurt either.

Understanding that not everyone is going to be into such an exotic (and expensive) gaming laptop, Acer also announced the Predator Triton 500 at CES. The company designed an "Ezel Areo Hinge" that's attached to the 4K 17-inch display of the Triton 900.

The Triton 500 features a 15.6-inch IPS display with a 144Hz refresh rate and starts at a much more manageable $1799 price tag.

It looks like Acer was waiting for Nvidia Turing graphics to make their way to laptops, as we finally have the specs. It also features a Xbox wireless receiver, so you can also use Xbox One controller if you do not want to use mouse and keyboard for gaming. Waves Maxx™ delivers superior sound quality made immersive with Waves Nx™ with head tracking for a hyper-realistic 3D audio experience. At 17.99mm thick and 4.6 pounds, the Triton 500 is still a fair bit heftier than something like an ultrabook, but that's pretty good as far as gaming laptops are concerned.

Last, but not the least, both the Predator Nitron 900 and the Triton 500 come with support for the PredatorSense app to control the laptops via smartphones. Acer now has plans for just one model of the Triton 900 that will come equipped with an Intel Core i7-8750H and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card. Users can control settings for overclocking, fan speeds, lighting, as well as audio modes. Users can show active lighting profiles preset on the PC, or switch lighting profiles remotely.

The Predator Triton 500 will be available on February 15 followed by the Predator Triton 900 on March 15.

The Predator Triton 900 has been priced at $3,999 (roughly Rs. 2,82,200) and will will be available in North America, China, Europe, Middle East, and Africa in March.
