The African Football Confederation has officially announced the final list of the 2018 African Footballer of the Year award nominees, including Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and fellow player Sadio Mane, as well as Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Egyptian worldwide Salah is the current holder of the award after his goals played a large part in helping Liverpool reach the Champions League final in 2018. He rose to fame previous year after breaking records and winning several awards, most notably the Golden Boot and the Top Scorer of the Top Five Leagues.

Current holder Salah beat teammate Mane and former Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who joined Arsenal last January, to scoop the 2017 accolade.

The awards gala night is scheduled to hold on January 8, in Dakar, Senegal.

Salah and Mane both went to the World Cup, with Egypt and Senegal respectively, but neither made it past the group stage.

This is the fifth straight nomination for Aubameyang, who won in 2015. He scored the victor against Napoli in December to send Liverpool through to the last 16 of the Champions League at the Italian club's expense.

Meanwhile, Salah has made the three man shortlist only the second time after winning the award last term, becoming the first Egyptian to do so since 1992.

He will be hoping to be third time lucky and become the second Senegalese to win the topmost individual honour after Diouf.
