A man who spent three hours licking a doorbell as a family slept inside is being hunted by police.

Police said a surveillance system helped them investigate the case.

A family in Salinas called police after their security system caught the man going to town on their doorbell.

The man was also caught relieving himself in the front yard, and reportedly also approached a neighbor's house.

Salinas police say they were able to identify the suspect thanks to the clear image taken by the surveillance camera.

"This just kind of re-enforces how important it is to have security within your home", said the homeowners.

Sylvia Dungan, "doorbell licker victim", told Kion: "I thought, boy there's a lot of traffic".

And it's been reported that he also visited one of the Dungans' neighbours.

Dungan said that her children were asleep inside the home at the time but were not awoken by Arroyo's presence.

Authorities said they recognized Arroyo from the footage, and that he's now facing misdemeanor charges of prowling and violation of probation.

"You kind of laugh about it afterwards because, technically, he didn't harm anybody, he didn't break anything", said Sylvia Dungan, the owner of the home. Police said he took an extension cord from the front yard, but the neighbors found it the next morning.
