MLB Rumors: ‘Mystery Team’ Involved In Manny Machado Sweepstakes

REPORTS: Manny Machado Still Seeking More Than $325 Million, Yankees Out

REPORTS: Manny Machado Still Seeking More Than $325 Million, Yankees Out

The Yankees have signed free-agent second basement DJ LeMahieu, giving them an abundance of infielders.

The 26-year-old Machado met with the Yankees at Yankee Stadium last month, part of a tour that also brought him to Philadelphia, as well as Chicago, where he met with the White Sox. Both work out with and are close friends of Machado.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the deal is worth around $24 million.

Machado is said to be seeking somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 million, and there has been no indication that the Yankees are willing to go that high.

One second baseman that they have seemingly been linked to all winter was D.J. LeMahieu, who they are very familiar with considering he played for the division-rival Colorado Rockies the last seven seasons.

In Manny Machado market, #Yankees have trailed #Phillies and #WhiteSox in seriousness of interest.

The Bryce Harper carousel will keep spinning. The Yankees were thought to be his preference, meaning he may just take the most money on the table of the two remaining teams, and that's likely to come from Philadelphia. But the general consensus is that he will sign his deal first, with the Phillies and Chicago White Sox the main two players for his services. The Phillies reportedly prefer Machado, and their pursuit of the infielder could increase over the next few days. That no longer appears to be a realistic option.

In other words, the Phillies either accidentally landed a potential Machado bargaining piece or are making a not-so-subtle push to get the All-Star's attention three weeks after hosting him at Citizens Bank Park.
