Nationals Reportedly Agree to One-Year Deal With 2B Brian Dozier

Former Twin Brian Dozier will remain in the Senior Circuit

The 31-year-old Dozier is coming off a down year - which he attributed to a bone bruise in his knee suffered in April - in a winter full of second baseman on the free agent market.

Second baseman Brian Dozier has agreed to a one-year, $9 million deal with the Nationals on Thursday, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. It was a down year for Dozier in 2018, as he slashed just.215/.305/.391 throughout the year, clubbing 21 home runs and driving in 72 RBI.

But Dozier has had more than 600 plate appearances in every season since 2013.

In 2017, Dozier led AL second baseman in fielding percentage and won a Gold Glove.

The longtime Minnesota Twins second baseman is fresh off a trip to the World Series as a deadline acquisition for the Los Angeles Dodgers and still has plenty to offer.

He had a.182 batting average with five home runs and 20 RBIs after the trade in 47 games. He is expected to head to spring training with a chance to compete to be the No. 5 starter at the back end of Washington's star-studded rotation, which includes Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, Patrick Corbin and Anibel Sanchez.

Ultimately, Dozier should turn out to be a nice addition for the Nationals. Rather than relying on Kendrick and Difo, signing Dozier should help the Nationals replace some of what they're losing with Harper and Murphy. Dozier and the Washington Nationals are a very good match for one another and both are hoping to see Dozier return to turning on pitches that are launched over the left field fence routinely as they both look for a return to the playoffs in 2019.
