This is the absolute best diet for 2019

U.S. News and World Report has released its annual list of the best diets, just in time for all those new year's resolutions.

The diet is taken from popular eating lifestyle of countries that border the Mediterranean Sea, with an emphasis on olive oil, fish, beans, nuts, fruits and vegetables.

The U.S. News & World Report panel of experts, which includes doctors and nutritionists, each year ranks diets in eight categories.

Meanwhile, the Nordic diet - a plant-focused plan that borrows from the Scandinavian tradition - made its first appearance on the list, at number nine.

Unlike highly restrictive diets like the keto diet or the Atkins diet, the Mediterranean diet is balanced and allows people to eat a wide variety of foods in moderation.

"These diets that are consistently top performers are scoring well, from nutrition to helpfulness, ease, ability to help prevent chronic conditions and more", Haupt said. Through our engaging digital experience and face-to-face group workshops, members follow our livable and sustainable program that encompasses healthy eating, physical activity, and a positive mindset.

In third place, is something new called the Flexitarian Diet.

"Our experts say [keto] is effective for short-term weight loss but they all emphasized it does not mean it's a good idea for long-term health", she said.

The DASH diet, made up of low-sodium and healthful foods, was originally started by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) as a diet to help reduce blood pressure. In fact, the diet is safe for most people, including children and older people. It also limits red meat, salt, and candies.

Among the diet's requirements is eating three servings of whole grains, a salad and another vegetable daily, as well as a single glass of wine if desired. It's more flexible than fully vegetarian or vegan diets.

The WW Freestyle program was launched in 2017 and builds off the company's signature SmartPoints system, which assigns every food and beverage a point value, based on its nutrition. The plan also involves in-person meetings or online chats created to support those in the program and keep them accountable.
